| 内容： | A stopper rod 14 for controlling the flow of molten metal during casting comprises an elongate body 34 which has a wear resistant tip 36 at one end. At least part of the body 34 is made of a laminate composite material that includes multiple layers of a reinforcing fabric embedded within a cast ceramic matrix and a failsafe element 35 which holds broken parts of the rod together should it break. The failsafe element 35 may be a metallic helical wire or mesh which is embedded between layers of the reinforcing fabric. The fabric may be woven glass fibre and the matrix selected from fused silica, alumina, mullite, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, silicon aluminium oxy-nitride, zircon, magnesia, zirconia, graphite, calcium silicate, boron nitride, aluminium nitride, titanium diboride and mixtures thereof. The rod 14 may be coated with a non-stick layer which includes boron nitride. |
